About Us

The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza is entering its 34th year of service to the Capital District. Locally Owned, Truly Independent, One of a Kind…simple but distinctive words in this age of big box chain stores. It’s cozy, intimate, full of character and sporting a staff known for its sense of humor not to mention its competency and dedication to customer service and to books themselves.

The Book House is more than just books, though. The Book House creates a sense of place and community identity and its stock selection reflects the local culture. Home to over thirty book clubs, numerous readings and signings, an avid supporter of Literacy Volunteers and the AIDS Council, benefactor and facilitator to dozens of reading enrichment programs at local schools and libraries, generous donor to churches, synagogues and local charities and a charter member of Capital Region Local First.

Testimonials

I love the section of Kid's books! It's also great to support a locally owned business. Customer service is fabulous and very helpful.
Great selection of kids' books. Books are sorted by type and subject matter making it easy to find the type of book you are looking for. Great place to go for a baby shower or child's birthday gift.
I love shopping at the Book House above the big box booksellers. They still have a great selection and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable enough to recommend books and find them for you. The prices here are going to be what's on the cover, but I think the extra money is worth having a personal touch to the business of buying books. It's in a great location too, with lots of other neat shops around it.
I love this bookstore because it's locally owned and they have lots of events going on. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It's in a great location too for browsing! The prices aren't very competitive though and I find it hard to justify spending so much money on a book when I can get it for so much cheaper on Amazon - or even heading over to Barnes and Noble or Borders.
